DESCRIPTION The Castle is an ancient feudal hamlet consisting of the church with it's bell tower dated 1000, the adjacent castle and a small group of houses, a splendid example of medieval architecture.
The castle and the church, both with the severe beauty of a high ranking fortress, where first noted in a document of 1030.
Rich in history and legend, the building is enriched by beamed ceilings and sumptuous doorways.
During medieval times the church held jurisdiction over a number of surrounding villages, Vertine, San Donato in Perano and Montegrossi.
The Castle complex, surrounded by vineyards and woods, looks out over a splendid valley, at the center of an area rich in castles and ruins, ancient abbeys and medieval villages.
ROOMS Each of the 30 rooms and 8 suites, all with air-conditioning, satellite TV and mini bar, offers maximum comfort and a splendid view, either down the valley or into the internal courtyard.
From the vast grassy terraces guests can enjoy the quiet and beauty of the surrounding countryside.
This is where the swimming pools are situated, one outdoors with a pleasant waterfall, the other indoor and heated during the winter months.
A sauna, a Turkish bath and gym, tennis court and billiard room complete the activities available at Spaltenna.
For horse riders there is the possibility for trekking very close by, whilst hikers will find an infinite variety of trails in the area around the castle
RESTAURANT The restaurant della Pieve is situated in the centuries old hall of Castello, an ancient fortified monastery surrounded by the vineyards and woods of Chianti, and offers traditional cuisine in an elegant and creative style.
There is an ample selection of wines.
The internal courtyard, dominated by the ancient bell tower, is perfect for suggestive candlelit dinners accompanied of light sound of harp and violin.
WHERE WE ARE The Castle is located in Gaiole and dominates Chianti’s hills and vineyards.
At twenty minutes from Siena, fifty from Florence and nearby the most important villages of the Chianti Classico region as Radda, Panzano, Castellina, Greve and Castelnuovo Berardenga.
