DESCRIPTION
The Relais is nestled in nature, cloaked in serenity and embraced by natural beauty, even if close to the main ways of communication and only a couple of miles from Cortona.
The Relais is located at the foothills of Cortona, one of the oldest towns in Italy, with its characteristic roofs, towers and churches, that make it resemble a painting hanging from the sky.
Cortona, through its history, tells the tourist amazing stories about divinities like Jupiter, Elettra, Dardano, and heroes here buried like Pitagora and Ulysses.
Cortona is one of the Tuscan towns that best represent Tuscany with its artistic treasures, museums, Etruscan walls, medieval streets and renaissance palaces that make it a town out of time; as well as its famous and seductive wines and food specialties, not to mention olive oil.
The Relais is an ancient 16th century farm, transformed in Relais (country hotel) with 35 rooms, through restoration works that have brought back the antique magnificence of the little village, emphasizing its typical characteristics such as the stone facade, the inside ceilings with beams, the "cotto" pavements and the fire places made of "serena" stone, all traditional building materials of the Valdichiana.
The outside areas, with the stairs and the little alleys which, from the Relais, lead to the swimming pool, the landscaping, the wonderful arcade of the 1600's, and the antique well, all contribute to making this Relais/Hotel an enchanted corner of local history.
